Getting your bearings
We help you every step of the way through your GP training, demystifying the bizarre acronyms, simplifying the gobbledegook and providing useful information and downloads which ease the burden of the journey and allow you to enjoy your training!
From the first few days..... ..... which are always trying; smiling until your face aches, names and faces you instantly forget, a tsunami of paperwork – and that’s just the Trainers! It’s even worse for a Registrar, as you’re disorientated, worrying “Am I up to the job?” and unsure what’s expected of you.
Fortunately help is at hand, as our downloads help provide an insight into what to expect and examples of induction programmes (click to download), what is covered during the induction period, an example of a Registrar timetable and the BMA model contract.
Don’t forget to looks at the nMRCGP web page (click) to help you understand all the new acronyms, assessments and deadlines, which you have to master and have a look at the Half Day Release page (click) to see what interesting topics are in store for you.
If this seems a little overwhelming, don’t panic, our web pages will explain everything. But if you're still worried why not try and relax with one of our recommended good reads, or try one of the restaurants or local places to visit from our Time Out page (click).
To preparing for life after training... With all the pressures of nMRCGP; the exams, the assessments and reviews it’s hard to believe there can be a life after training (click)! New challenges and opportunities await in equal measure and some prior preparation can help you make the most of all that is on offer.
First you need to consider what you really want, the free and flexible life of a locum, the security of a salaried post with only clinical responsibilities or do you desire the challenges of partnership, leading and developing a team and its service?
Which ever you choose you will have to come to terms with recertification, revalidation, accountants and the dreaded taxman – so why not look at our downloads or read about some of Pennine’s previous Registrars and their reflections on the first year in the big, wide world.
